What Should I Expect on My First Visit?

Wear or bring loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your arms, legs, and abdomen. Try to eat something light beforehand — acupuncture on an empty stomach can leave you feeling lightheaded.
Your first visit at Loquat Health is about getting a full picture of your health, not just your symptoms. It is a 90 minute visit, which gives us time for a thorough intake before any treatment begins.
We'll start with a detailed conversation about your health history, current concerns, and goals. In Chinese medicine, small details often point to the bigger pattern behind what you're experiencing, so don't be surprised if we ask about things that seem unrelated to your main concern.
From there, we'll move into your first acupuncture treatment, tailored to what came up in your intake. The needles are inserted and you are left to rest for 30 minutes in a dark room with music. You will have a buzzer to call if needed.
After the treatment you will talk about your treatment plan and what to expect.

How often you'll need to come in depends on your specific concern and how your body responds to treatment. Many patients start with weekly visits for the first four to six weeks, since consistency early on tends to build momentum and gives us a clearer sense of how you're responding. From there, visits are often spaced out to every other week, and eventually to monthly maintenance care, depending on your goals.
Some concerns, like fertility support timed to your cycle, may follow a more specific schedule tied to where you are in your cycle or treatment protocol. Others, like an acute pain flare, may need more frequent visits at first before tapering off.
We'll talk through a recommended plan at your first visit based on what we learn during your intake, and we'll adjust it together as your treatment progresses.

Yes, Loquat Health is in-network with the following PPO plans: Cigna, United Healthcare and Blue Shield of California (Select Plans).
If you're covered by one of these plans, we'll bill your insurance directly for covered services. For all other insurance plans, we're considered out-of-network, but we still submit the claim to your insurance company on your behalf. Payment is due at the time of your visit, and if your insurance pays a portion of the claim, we will reimburse you.
